ITS SURPRISING HEALTH BENEFITS
Certain Navajo foods have been blue for many generations because ash from burned juniper bark and berries was sprinkled in the cornmeal. The ash has also been used in traditional healing and cleansing ceremonies. An analysis of the ash, which was reported in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association (April 1998), revealed that a teaspoon of it yields as much calcium as a cup of whole milk. Since most Navajos are lactose intolerant, this had become their main source of calcium a number of generations ago. Today most calcium is obtained through food sources such as canned sardines, sesame seeds, tofu, cooked collard greens, and figs, or through supplements. A disturbing report in Parenting magazine (October 1997, p. 189) showed from an analysis of major brands of calcium supplements obtained from New York City health food stores, that nearly all of them contained between 0.5 and 21 mcg of lead. The article warned that because of this they might be unfit for young children, pregnant mothers, or the elderly to take. Of all the calcium sources available to humans, that which has been recently extracted from coral (without disturbing its fragile beauty) is the best and safest to use. Studies with Okinawan coral calcium began back as far as 1957. Then Dr. Jun Kobayashi of the Okayama University in Okayama, Japan, began investigating the remarkable longevity patterns and amazing health records of residents of Okinawa, an island located south of the Japanese mainland. Several interesting discoveries soon emerged from his research. For one, many of the island residents lived well into their late 90s or early 100s, something highly unusual even for the healthiest of city dwelling Japanese in other parts of the nation. Secondly, many of these same subjects posted excellent serum cholesterol and blood pressure levels akin to those one-third their ages. Moreover they had outstanding cardiac functions and were relatively free of heart disease. Many of the women had never experienced any of the signs of premenstrual syndrome or menopause so common to those in the West. Furthermore, none of them showed any evidence of colon cancer and maintained good dental health in spite of the lack of brushing their teeth. It took some good medical sleuthing, but eventually Dr. Kobayashi was able to track down the main source for all of this outstanding health. It lay in the island's natural drinking water. Most of it is filtered through a coral substrata as it comes out of the ground. The result is a water that is extremely high in coral mineral content, calcium being the most significant element present. Okinawan coral calcium is the purest source for this needful mineral and the only kind which the body can readily absorb and easily assimilate for maximum utilization. In combination with augmenting nutrients such as magnesium and vitamin D, it stays in the body longer where it is employed more efficiently than any other calcium source known. One obvious way to support the effectiveness of calcium supplements is to make sure you include plenty of calcium-rich foods in your diet, such as cabbage, kale, yellow, green, or waxed beans, and salmon. Foods that are high in magnesium include leafy green vegetables, whole grains, bananas, apricots, beans, and nuts. R-Garden's Coral Calcium is harvested from defunct reef-building coral using methods that are ecologically friendly without damaging the living coral reef or the environment.
